For low-cost feature walls that require minimal effort.

The words classic and timeless are often a good starting point when decorating a house. I like mixed styles very much, but I find that adding timeless elements that will never go out of style is very helpful in dealing with changing trends. Picture frames are a design element that can be checked for "classic and timeless" frames, but what's even better is that they are a very simple DIY that anyone can complete, even if you don't have a saw.

Many times, the feature wall requires a lot of cutting, but this project is an exception, and it happens to be one of the easiest DIYs I have ever done. Real wood is not even a requirement for this, which also prevents its price tag from bankrupting the bank.

PVC trim is the material I used in this DIY project. Using this type of trim also allows you to use a pair of beveled boards instead of a saw. If you are not familiar, the miter board is basically a pair of scissors that can cut a small piece of wood (in this case, pvc) to the exact angle you want. They save a lot of time for such projects and allow you to knock down a beautiful wall in a short time.

First, you need to decide the size of the box. I always like to use painter's tape to make my project look like. As a very visual person, I find it helpful to actually see what the final result will look like, so putting my box on the wall helps me do this. It also gives me an idea of the measurements required for my decorative pieces. In addition, I suggest you pick up the tape measure and make sure that the width of the box and the distance between them are even. Some basic mathematical operations will ensure that everything looks uniform and pleasing to the eye.

When measuring cuts, you need to make sure that oblique cuts are taken into account. All your cuts are 45-degree cuts, so you need to take this into consideration when making measurements. Measure the inner length or outer length of the box and stick to these measurements throughout the process.

Fixing the decoration to the wall is as easy as using a spirit level, nails and some small veneer nails, just like using a DIY wall panel. However, if you don’t have a nail gun, don’t worry. This project can also be done by using adhesives, which is basically "gluing" these pieces to the wall. I even saw someone using double-sided tape or a command bar to do it, which is very friendly to tenants!

Once your box is hung up and level, you will need to fill in the nail holes and seams. For this, I prefer to use ointment and use baby wipes when it is dry. this is correct. No wood filler, no sanding. This little trick saves me time and trouble, and I can avoid cleaning up at any time, especially DIY.

For the seams, I apply a circle of caulk on each side of each box and at each corner seam (make sure you grab the paintable one). Like most other skills, caulking is a skill that will improve with practice, and you will find that in almost all situations, less is more. You will want to put a small piece of caulk on the production line, and when you are done, use-you guessed it-baby wipes to wipe the seams clean. This is actually one of my favorite steps in this type of project, because the difference you will see after caulking the seams is what really gives the finished professional look.

I prefer a caulk with a fast drying time of 20 minutes, so once it dries, you can paint your picture frame. I like a monochromatic look that uses the same color as the color you used to paint the walls.

Surprisingly, a small project like this can increase the space and hardly require power tools. There is no reason not to let anyone try it!
